Two Mpox cases have been confirmed in the Accra Metropolitan Area by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which also reports that quick action is being taken to contain the virus and stop its spread.

The GHS reassured the public that there is no need for worry and that the situation is under control in a press release issued on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

To stop any possible spread, the agency is enforcing important public health measures in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

Close contact with sick people, animals, or contaminated objects can spread the infectious virus known as mpox. Skin rashes, fever, enlarged lymph nodes, headaches, backaches, and muscle soreness are typical symptoms.

Health officials have started tracking down and identifying those who might have come into contact with the confirmed cases.

Individuals that are identified will have their symptoms monitored and receive medical assistance if necessary.

In the meantime, efforts are being made to improve surveillance in communities and health facilities in order to promptly identify and look into any suspected or new cases.

To increase awareness of Mpox, the GHS is initiating public education initiatives as part of its response strategy.

In addition to avoiding close contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms, citizens are being urged to practice excellent hand hygiene and to swiftly report any suspicious signals to the closest health institution.

The nation has mechanisms in place to stop a bigger outbreak, the statement said, adding that “the public health system is alert and capable of managing the situation.”

The GHS reiterated its dedication to protecting public health by taking prompt, well-coordinated, and open action.
