On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at a special session, the Ghanaian parliament authorized seven loan agreements worth a combined $710 million.

The loans approved include US$60.6 million as a third additional funding source for the Ghana Covid-19 Emergency Preparedness and Response Project, US$150 million to fund the West Africa Food Systems Resilience Programme, and €170 million to build the Development Bank of Ghana.

The remaining funds will be used to finance the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project, the Primary Healthcare Investment Project, the Public Financial Management for Service Delivery Program, and the Medical Equipment Provision Project in response to COVID-19. These funds total US$150 million each.

The World Bank and the government of the West African gold producer have a loan deal worth US$200 million.

Speaker Alban Bagbin summoned the chamber back together after their Easter recess for the emergency session.
