The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources would like to formally announce that, in keeping with the government’s commitment to combating the threat of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” a strong and efficient intelligence-led secretariat has been established to serve as the main hub for planning, organizing, and overseeing all anti-illegal mining initiatives nationwide.

In order to address the grave environmental threat posed by illegal mining, stakeholders from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Security Council, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources collaborated to create the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

NAIMOS’s goal is to provide a unified framework to combat illegal mining and the issues that surround it.

“In view of this integrated intelligence initiative, the Ministry wishes to emphatically state that no person, individual, or organised group is allowed to embark on any anti-illegal mining operation without consulting the duly established Secretariat, which has been formally tasked for that purpose,” the statement read.

For the avoidance of misunderstanding, we strongly advise all relevant Ghanaians to take note of this arrangement and abide by it. This includes any anti-galamuy operations, swoops, and raids carried out without the Secretariat’s full agreement and authorization.

The number to reach the NAIMOS team is +233 3039 82151.

Thus, the Ministry would like to reaffirm its determination to use the variety of environmental cleanup initiatives presently in place to address the problem of illicit mining in a decisive manner. fight against global warming, recover depleted land, and return all contaminated waterways to their original state.
