The trial for Mr. Anthony Kwaku Boahen and Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been postponed till June 1, 2023 by the Accra High Court.

This came about as a result of Mr. Tony Lithur, the defense attorney for Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, the former chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), bringing attention to the fact that they had submitted an appeal to the Court of Appeal and were seeking guidance on May 10, 2023.

The Court and Prosecution said they lacked copies to support their claim.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mrs. Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, stated, “What we have is the right appeal and fixes for May 10, 2023. The proper records for the appeal have not yet been delivered to us. I was prepared to go when he stated he submitted it on Friday this morning.

The DPP said, “Mr. Boahen, the second accused, has indicated that he is filing an appeal against the finding that there is no case.”

One of the NDC communicators, Mr. Boahen’s defense attorney, Dr. Aziz Bamba, stated that they had filed a fiat and remarked, “I am shocked you were not served.

Given that the prosecution had not yet been served, Mrs. Attakorah Obuobisa volunteered to examine the registration.

“I’m also ready, especially when Tony Lithur filed witness statements,” the court presided over by Justice Samuel K. Asiedu added.

The accusation against Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo and Mr. Boahen is that they threatened to harm public officials.

Since then, they have been given bail.

According to the prosecution, Ofosu Ampofo met with some NDC communicators on February 3, 2019, following the violent Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019.

The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, and Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council, were the targets of violence planned out at the aforementioned meeting, according to the prosecution.

According to the report, the Criminal Investigations Department opened a probe into the comment made on the audio recording of the meeting.

In an interview on February 20, 2019, Boahen confirmed his attendance at the meeting and said that the audio tape that had leaked accurately captured what had happened during the meeting on February 3, 2019.
