At the ancient Salaga Slave Market, PANAFEST and Emancipation 2025 got underway with a colorful and profoundly significant ceremony.

The event, which included a large durbar, was a potent time of recollection and rejuvenation because it skillfully combined deep thought with rich cultural exhibits.

The event’s central topic, “Let’s Speak of #ReparativeJustice and #Youth #Activism,” was vividly emphasized by this immersive experience, highlighting the importance of remembering those who were hushed, sold, and chained but never forgotten.

During his speech, Hon. Yazid Kasim Rabiu, the East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized the region’s rich history, culture, and traditions.

He notably called on the Ghana Tourism Authority to investigate the area’s breathtaking Black and White Volta River confluence, emphasizing its enormous potential as an ecotourism destination.

Mr. Gilbert Aggrey, Deputy CEO in charge of Marketing and Special Duties, accepted the sacred sword of Ndewura Jakpa, the esteemed founder of Gonjaland, on behalf of Maame Efua Houadjeto, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Mr. Aggrey noted that this sword, a potent symbol of leadership and unity, is located not far from the durbar grounds.

He also underlined how important the GTA is to promoting this vibrant cultural environment and drawing tourists from abroad and locally to “discover, learn, and connect the soul of Ghana right here in the Savannah Region.”

In keeping with the theme, the durbar ended with a stirring proclamation: “The chains are broken. The door is open.

This reaffirmed themes of independence, remembering, and the constant quest for justice throughout the day.
