In the Birim North district of the Eastern region, at Korle Teye, a galamsey pit is said to contain the bodies of seven people.
According to accounts, 7 of the 9 people who were pulled alive from the rubble shortly after the collapse have been identified as dead.
Although the exact cause of the pit’s collapse is unknown, several members of the community feel that Monday’s [May 15] widespread severe rainfall may have had a role.
According to reports, the locals and other miners in the region are currently in charge of the rescue operation.
After the miners called for a nearby ambulance, the recovered bodies have since been placed at the mortuary.
