A car accident involving a Toyota Hiace and a broken-down lorry near Dompoase on the Cape Coast-Takoradi route has reportedly resulted in two fatalities and eight injuries.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel from the Komenda Fire Station responded to the accident, which happened on Friday, July 31.
The rescue team was sent to the location at approximately 6:55 p.m., according to a statement from the GNFS. One person was stuck inside a Toyota Hiace with registration number AS 6145-24 when firefighters arrived.
The team successfully freed the person who was stuck.
Ten individuals were inside the car at the time of the collision, according to preliminary information.
Three of the ten occupants were initially believed to have suffered severe injuries, while the other ten had varied degrees of injuries.
The injured individuals were sent to the Elmina Polyclinic to receive medical care. Nevertheless, two of the victims had passed away from their wounds, according to later confirmation from National Ambulance Service officials.
According to eyewitness reports, the collision happened as a result of an unknown car trying to pass another car on its way from Takoradi to Cape Coast.
A broken-down lorry with registration number GN 2491-14 struck the Toyota Hiace, which was heading from Cape Coast to Takoradi, after it apparently swerved to escape the approaching car.
The GNFS stated that as investigations proceed, more information on the incident will become available.
