A Nyinahin SHS teacher who was charged with abusing a student was re-arraigned and given GH₵80,000 bail.

The 39-year-old teacher who reportedly assaulted a student in Nyinahin, Ashanti Region, was re-arraigned on Friday in Nyinahin District Court.

Eric Apaflo Buernortey entered a not guilty plea after being accused of assault.

The teacher is being arraigned for the second time. On June 8, 2026, the accused was first arraigned following the incident.

Nevertheless, the police withdrew the case, and the accused was released.

Under the direction of a relieving judge, Lord Delvin Essandoh, the Nyinahin District Court granted Buernortey bail in the amount of GH₵80,000 with three sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, the teacher was ordered by the court to report to the case investigator on Mondays every two weeks.

The court declared that it would not accept any false information spread by the public on the case at hand.

“The public is hereby cautioned against any misinformation in respect of the matter, as any misinformation would not be tolerated,” the court said.

The complainant, Patricia Chibu, was an 18-year-old final-year student at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, according to the prosecution, which was led by Chief Inspector Eric Owusu.

In addition, the accused person worked as a tutor at the same school and maintained the Adusei Hostel, which is next to the school.

According to the prosecution, the accused person warned the complainant and other male students living in the dormitory about wrongdoing on June 8, 2026, at around midday.

The accused was angry, the court heard, when the complainant made fun of and insulted him during the altercation.

As a result, the plaintiff was attacked and assaulted by the teacher.

Additionally, the complaint called some residents of the town to the location, where they tried to lynch the teacher. However, the attack was stopped by a Police Patrol Team’s prompt involvement.

After being saved, he and the complainant were brought to the police station, where they were given a Police Medical form so they could receive medical attention.

According to the prosecution, the complainant gave back the medical form that had been properly signed by a medical officer.

The accused was taken into custody, investigations were carried out, and he gave a warning statement.
