On the first day of the operation, which is set for Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will target the following areas: the vicinity of the AMA Head Office, Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, Zongo Lane, and Opera Square to Adabraka.

A portion of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, including Las Palmas and Glamour Road, as well as King Tackie Tawiah School and Cow Lane, UTC Road to Timber Market, and Wato Junction, will be the focus of Day 2’s action. Day 3 will focus on the remaining parts of the Circle and the Kaneshie enclave, including Pamprom Lane and the footbridges.

With assistance from the Ghana Police Service, market leaders, transport unions, and other important stakeholders, the AMA and the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) are leading the three-day phase activity.

The effort is in strict compliance with the AMA Hawkers Bye-Laws (2017) and Section 117(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which both forbid actions that obstruct the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in public spaces, the AMA stated in a statement released on Friday.

All those impacted were instructed to leave these areas by the end of business on Monday, May 19, 2025, according to a statement written by the Head of Public Affairs on behalf of Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Mayor of Accra.

It further stated that previous stakeholder engagements had been conducted and that it was established that there is sufficient room for traders in the specified markets.

As part of its urban revitalization plan, the AMA also declared in the statement that it would implement a 24-hour city operating model. This would include a special task force for security and cleanliness to promote better sanitation and safe nighttime business operations in the capital.

In order to assist in restoring order and dignity to the city, the statement urged the people to support the exercise and urged impacted groups to cooperate fully.
