An eight-person ad hoc committee has been constituted by Second Deputy Speaker of the House Andrew Asiamah Amoako to investigate the viability of instituting a pension plan for MPs.

This is in response to former MPs’ mounting welfare concerns.

Following a memorial service for the late Talensi MP John Akologu Tia, recommendations from the Majority and Minority Chief Whips served as the impetus for this initiative.

The statement was made on Friday, June 28, 2024, during parliamentary proceedings. The committee has been given a week to submit its recommendations to the chamber.

“Honourable members, I think this is very important for all of us. So a committee has been set up and looking at the members that have been assembled to look into it, I think we can be rest assured that they will come out with something good for us.” Andrew Asiamah Amoako, emphasizing the significance of this endeavor.

“So, we thank the members and we hope that they work out expeditiously for us.” he added as thanked the committee members and asked them to work hard.
