Hopeson Adorye, a member of the Alan for President 2024 campaign team, has stated that Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the trade and industry minister, will heed the calls to resign in order to pursue his ambitions of leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections only if the economy stabilizes.
He asserts that Mr. Kyerematen must play a part in securing the recovery of Ghana’s economy.
When it comes to the party’s broader interests going into the upcoming elections, he claimed Mr. Kyerematen cannot afford to put his desire ahead of those.
The success of the party, and by extension, the administration, he claimed, will serve as Mr. Kyerematen’s platform for the general elections of 2024.
He acknowledged that there have been requests from all sides urging the Minister to leave the cabinet in order to pursue his aspirations of becoming the party’s leader and end the party’s eight-year political curse.
Even yesterday night, he said, “I received calls from as far away as the Upper East and Upper West Regions asking why Alan was still in the administration when he is supposed to be running for the party leadership.”
Since our nation is in peril and all hands are needed on deck, Alan Kyerematen is not stepping down at this time, the speaker said.
He quickly added that if the party accepts nominations for the position of flagbearer, the commerce minister will humbly present his resignation.
He said, “Alan would have to campaign on the successes chalked up on the economy that will be bequeathed to him by the current president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I know many people are worried about Alan’s delays in resigning to pursue his ambitions.
