The 98 NPP MPs threatening to boycott the 2023 budget presentation if the current Finance Minister proceeds to read it in parliament have reportedly been invited by former president John Agyekum Kufour.
According to Starr News, the purpose of the meeting is for the former leader to find a solution to the deadlock that has existed for the past few weeks.
Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the agitated MPs’ spokeswoman, made the decision public and declared that they were determined to remove Ken Ofori-Atta this time.
Following a meeting with the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPP MPs previously softened their position.
President Akufo-Addo had asked for the sector minister to be permitted to stay until after the budget presentation and appropriation of the same, to which the MPs had agreed, in a statement signed by Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
But within the minority censure motion that was brought before the House, the irate MPs are persuaded that it is time for the beleaguered Finance Minister to resign.
“We’ve returned to (our request that the President fire him) at this point, so should the budget be presented with the Finance Minister’s signature, we won’t take part because, in our opinion, we’ll never conduct business with him.
Furthermore, if we aren’t going to work with him, he won’t take part in any proceedings, from the Presidency to the House. We won’t take part in those discussions either. Joy Fm was told by Appiah-Kubi.
Whether the group will compromise its stance a second time following the former President’s involvement is still up in the air.
