If Alan Kyeremateng is chosen as the New Patriotic Party flagbearer in November, Hon. Abubakar Sadique Boniface, a former minister and member of parliament for the Madina Constituency under the last Kufuor administration, is rumored to be eyeing the No. 2 spot.
Should NPP delegates choose Mr. Boniface’s boss, Alan Kyeremateng, to lead the party, Mr. Boniface is claimed to have begun lobbying and secured the support of all the important individuals pertinent to the choice to name him running mate for president next year.
Mr. Boniface, a fervent fan of Alan Kyeremateng, has been traveling around the nation to solicit votes for Alan and cultivate contacts in preparation for his desire to run for office with Alan.
Alan is claimed to enjoy the support of Ghanaian Zongos, Muslims, and northerners thanks to the former works and housing minister with vast experience.
Fast-rising Peter Amewu, who now has the NPP’s sole seat in Volta Region and is reputed to be well-liked in the area, is posing more of a threat to Mr. Boniface.
In the Volta Region, Mr. Amewu recently expressed his public support for Alan Kyeremateng. He said that his supervisor and mentor were Alan Kyeremateng. This followed the death of Philip Basoah, the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, and the appearance of the Minister for Railways Development in Alan’s group at his funeral.
In an effort to be taken into consideration for Running Mate should Alan win the flagbearership contest, Mr. Amewu is said to have begun subtly persuading the influential people close to Alan.
Mr. Amewu, who has allegedly been involved in media reports of marital problems involving the wife of a mining executive, is believed to have put those issues behind him and won the Hohoe seat for the NPP. If he runs again, he might win a second term.
Others who are rumored to be interested but have not publicly expressed it include Gifty Klenam, who is playing the same card as Amewu, and Catherine A. Afeku, a former minister of tourism and the arts.
