NPP changes the primary schedule. Candidates for president are vetted on July 3

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a modification to its schedule for the upcoming primaries for the presidency and orphan constituencies.

This information was provided in a statement released by the party on Monday, June 12, 2023, and signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, general secretary.

The updated schedule states that “Prospective presidential aspirant(s) will be vetted from July 3 through July 6, 2023.

On July 10th, 2023, the Vetting Committee Report will be sent to the National Council via the General Secretary.

Tuesday, July 11, 2023: Steering Committee Meeting (Publication of Vetting Report).

In addition, the statement said that any petitions would be delivered to the National Presidential Appeals Committee (NPAC) between July 12 and 14. The NPAC will meet on July 17 and 18 to hear any appeals that might be made in connection with the vetting procedure.

The candidates will be discussed at a joint meeting of the National Council and NEC on July 20. On Friday, July 21, the list of eligible presidential contenders will be published. The first Notice of Poll will be published the day after the first round of voting for positions on the ballot takes place on July 24.

The report on the proceedings of the Special Electoral College will be delivered to the National Council on August 28 through the General Secretary, following the National Congress by Special Electoral College (if any), which will be held on August 26. The last Notice of Poll will be released on August 31. A new balloting of the final five qualified candidates is scheduled for August 30.
