Andy Owusu and Charles Bissue, the former secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), have been granted bail by the Accra High Court.
The two men have been granted GH¢200,000 bail each with two sureties, one of whom must provide justification, on charges of 15 counts, including misuse of power for profit.
The court has mandated that both accused individuals deposit their passports with the court registry and appear at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) once a month as part of the bail requirements.
The case was postponed until May 29. The accusations are related to suspected corruption in relation to illicit mining operations.
These accusations, which have attracted a lot of public attention, accuse Bissue and Owusu of misusing their official authority for private benefit in relation to illicit mining operations.
The first complaint against Mr. Bissue specifically claims that he violated Section 179 C (a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), by using his public authority for financial benefit.
Additional alleged cases of corruption and abuse of office are described in the remaining fourteen counts. Both guys entered not guilty pleas.
