The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. John Dumelo, has handed 110,000 birds to be given to farmers in the Bono East Region as part of the government’s flagship “Nkoko Nketenkete” program.

The 11 politically independent Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the area are home to the recipient poultry farmers.

In order to care for the birds, Mr. Dumelo stated that the government would also supply roughly 48, 833 meals, 63,000 antibiotics, and 44,000 glucose.

Speaking at a ceremony in Techiman, the regional capital, the Deputy Minister instructed the several MMDAs in the area to keep an eye on the birds so that the country might reap the most benefits. Each Assembly was to receive and distribute 10,000 birds.

According to him, the government is still committed to recovering and growing the country’s poultry industry, lowering the amount of chicken imported each year, and generating jobs.

Mr. Dumelo reminded the recipients of the “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative to take excellent care of the birds and stated that the government would soon give farmers subsidised fertiliser, seedlings, and other farm inputs as part of the Feed Ghana program.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, praised the “Nkoko Nketenkete” project and said he hoped farmers will take advantage of it to support the government’s goals for the chicken industry.

He instructed the MoFA staff to step up bird monitoring and oversight, saying the project had a great deal of potential to reduce the financial strain on the populace.
