On Monday, April 3, 2023, hundreds of caterers working for the Ashanti region’s school feeding program were shocked to learn that Simon Osei Mensah would not be working with them.

The displeased traders had delivered a petition to the Regional Coordinating Council.

These caterers in the Ashanti area have been protesting for weeks now in order to get payments that are over a year overdue released and to increase the allocation cost from 97 pesewas per person to GHc3.

They blamed market price increases for food products and other food items for the demand for adjustment.

On March 20, they surrounded the regional school feeding secretariat in an attempt to get paid back, but they were unsuccessful.

They had yet another letdown on March 27.

After weeks of no reaction from the government, particularly from the Ministry of Gender responsible for running the school feeding program, a petition was to be delivered to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah.

Yet when the minister ignored them, they were disappointed.
