The four candidates running for president in the New Patriotic Party’s January 2026 primary have all been appointed co-chairmen of the newly formed NPP Policy Committees.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, purposefully named the four to indicate that the elephant family was closing ranks and moving in a single direction.

Within the party, Dr. Bawumia plans to create an organised, data-driven Policy Committee structure.

According to him, the framework is intended to produce reliable, fact-based alternative policy recommendations in key areas of Ghana’s economy and governance and to present the NPP as a government-in-waiting with significant, practical solutions for Ghanaians rather than just an opposition party.

The politician and former Minister of Works, Housing, and Information Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah will serve as the chair of the NPP Policy Committee, which is located at the top of the new organization.

Dr. Kwasi Nyame Baafi, a technocrat, is serving as the Committee’s secretary. It is anticipated that his employment will significantly improve the body’s administrative and intellectual rigour.

A wide range of sector-specific subcommittees pertaining to employment and jobs, energy, decentralisation and local governance, roads and transport, land and natural resources, education, health, the economy, and several other crucial policy areas will be supervised by the Committee.

For the flagbearer’s evaluation and final approval, each committee is responsible for carrying out independent research, involving industry experts and stakeholders, and developing policy alternatives supported by verifiable evidence.

The flagbearer’s office stated that Dr. Bawumia was committed to shifting the NPP from reactive opposition politics to “proactive, solution-oriented governance preparation.”

According to the office, Dr. Bawumia wants a party that can provide Ghanaians a clear, affordable, and viable option at any moment, rather than merely criticising.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a vocal businessman and former member of parliament, has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee, a position that perfectly reflects his long-standing support for entrepreneurship and job development driven by the private sector.

The Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee, a sector with shortfalls that continue to be a major concern for Ghanaians in both urban and rural regions, will be co-chaired by former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong.

Former Agriculture and Interior Minister Bryan Acheampong takes over as co-chair of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee, which is a perfect fit for a man with direct ministerial experience in security and administration.

As Co-Chairman of the Education Policy Committee, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Minister for Education, completes the foursome. He brings with him an impressive history of policy innovation and a strong desire to change Ghana’s educational system.
