The figures cited for the purchase of 18 iPhones by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) for essential employees have been refuted.
The report, which the business defines as naughty, states that the purchase cost GHC 28,541,261.00. “The following is our response to the false information. In May 2022, the business purchased eighteen (18) iPhone 13 Pro Max handsets for our corporate executives.
“The total cost of the phones was two hundred and thirty-four thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 234,000.00), grossed up for taxes at two hundred and eighty-five thousand, four hundred and twelve Ghana cedis, and sixteen pesewas (GHC 285,412.16).
The amount “is captured in the financial reports of the company,” the response added, “and the Auditor General who audits the company, at least over the past three years, vetted the decision and the value and made no adverse findings about same.”
The corporation gave a detailed justification for the acquisition, saying it needed the essential personnel “to stay in touch with the management information and business intelligence systems of the company for efficient decision making.”
A split second can mean the difference between success and failure in the petroleum storage and transportation sector, the company reaction noted, adding that “the results so far attest to the efficiency of the systems put in place, including the access points for key members of the team to access processed information for efficient decision making.”
BOST noted that the GHC 28,541,261.00 in the report might be the result of a typographical error in which the dot (.) was placed two steps to the right, changing the GHC 285,412.61 to the GHC 28,541,261.00 on the face of the document.
BOST has urged the public to dismiss the inaccurate and malicious report.
