By the end of June, the government promises to have finished distributing laptops to every teacher. Furthermore, by April 8, the government has promised to send a draft of the scheme of service to the unions for approval.
This was revealed during a continuing dialogue between the government and the striking teacher unions tomorrow, Wednesday, March 27, to conclude negotiations on unresolved issues, such as the payment of rent allowances and continuous development allowances, among other things.
News of advancements was shared with journalists by King Alidu, National President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), who had met with government officials and the National Labour Commission (NLC).
He pointed out that the Labour Commission’s guidelines were used to swiftly resolve a few difficulties.
He stated that it has been decided that instructors who have not yet received their computers will receive them all by the end of June.
Additionally, it has been decided that the Ghana Education Service would submit the draft scheme of service to the teaching unions for approval or review by April 8th.
Lastly, in order to guarantee the release of teachers whose salaries have been unjustly blocked, the GES will work with the OSP to implement measures.
The remaining six issues—continuous professional development, deprived area allowance, rent allowance, transportation or commuting allowance, and utility subsidy allowance—could not be discussed in the Labour Commission.
Mr. Alidu stated that their next course of action would be decided following a meeting with the leadership over the NLC’s directive to end the strike.
Dr. Yaw Adutwum, the minister of education, expressed optimism that the unions will abide by the National Labor Commission’s directive to end the strike in the interim.
