Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Acting Environment Minister and Minister of Lands, has urged international leaders to support Ghana and Africa in their efforts to achieve clean and sustainable energy globally.

Speaking on behalf of President Mahama at a high-level gathering of world leaders during this year’s COP30 in Brazil, he emphasised that Africa’s abundance of resources gives it the potential to influence global energy.

He claims that the continent is endowed with a wealth of solar, wind, and hydroelectric potential that may be used to successfully address the world’s ongoing climate issue.

As the head of Ghana’s delegation, he thus urged the hundreds of world leaders in attendance to utilise the continent’s natural resources in order to bring about the necessary changes in the global energy and climatic conditions.

On Thursday, November 6, in Belém, the COP30 host city, the Minister emphasised, “The African position is clear. We are not asking for charity. We are asking for partnership in the truest sense.”

“We stand ready to be a powerhouse of green energy for the world. But we cannot do it alone.”

Ghana’s Lands and Acting Environment Minister emphasised, “Therefore, on behalf of a continent poised at a pivotal moment in history, I call upon this assembly and our developed partners all over the world: We urge you to match our ambition with your action.”

Minister Buah also stated in his speech that world leaders must now more than ever lead by example when it comes to global climate financing.

According to him, this will significantly lessen the negative effects of climate change on the world and help protect the ecosystem.

“The climate finance promised for so long must now flow, not just in words, but in predictable investments, concessional investments, and private-sector-leveraged investments that reach the communities who need them most,” the Minister stated.

Armah-Kofi Buah underlined that “We need increased ambition for climate finance, with a significant portion dedicated to adaptation, and recognition of Africa’s special circumstances,”

He emphasised Ghana’s preparedness to play a significant role in addressing the climate crisis in his closing remarks and urged greater cooperation and partnerships.

“Let us leave Belém with a resolve to harness not only finance, but also technology, innovation and artificial intelligence to accelerate justice, equity and shared prosperity.

“From the Volta to the Western shores, Ghana stands ready to power Africa’s clean future,” the Minister ended.

COP30

The largest climate conference in the world, COP30, brings together world leaders in Belém, Brazil, to boost efforts to reduce emissions, increase climate finance, and assist those most impacted by climate change.

The summit marks an important turning point in the Paris Agreement’s objectives.

In the northern Brazilian city of Belém, Ghana is currently represented by authorised delegates and people.

On Monday, November 10, 2025, the official inauguration of COP is scheduled, at which point more discussions, climate talks, and negotiations are anticipated to start in earnest.
