Damang Gold Mine Limited has reportedly extracted more than 11 million tonnes of fresh mining material since taking over operations in April 2026, as the new management moves to demonstrate increased mining activity and operational expansion.

The mine’s Mining Manager, Frank Dankyi Agyei, disclosed that freshly mined material currently accounts for approximately 60 per cent of the ore being processed, while previously accumulated stockpiles contribute the remaining 40 per cent.

His disclosure was aimed at addressing concerns that the mine was relying heavily on existing stockpiles instead of conducting fresh mining activities following the takeover by Engineers and Planners.

According to management, mining volumes increased significantly between April and September 2026, rising from approximately 647,000 tonnes in late April to three million tonnes in September.

The monthly figures indicate a total of approximately 11.1 million tonnes, although the company is expected to clarify the figures in relation to an earlier aggregate estimate of eight million tonnes.

Damang Gold Mine Expands Mining Equipment

To increase production and improve operational efficiency, Damang Gold Mine has deployed at least nine excavators across its Amoanda and Juno mining pits, supported by approximately 50 to 57 haul trucks.

The equipment includes Liebherr, Hitachi and Caterpillar machinery being used to extract fresh ore and transport mining materials to processing facilities.

Management has also transferred 12 additional dump trucks from Tarkwa Mine to Damang for repairs and subsequent deployment. Plans are underway to acquire more trucks to strengthen the mine’s haulage capacity.

Engineers and Planners Takes Over Damang Mine

Damang Gold Mine was previously operated by Gold Fields Ghana Limited before its mining lease expired.

Following a competitive tender process supervised by the Minerals Commission, Engineers and Planners secured the concession and officially took over operations on April 18, 2026.

The transition was led by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

The latest operational update was presented during a public forum organised by Asempa FM, which provided an opportunity for company officials to discuss the mine’s performance during its first six months under the new operator and address concerns raised by host communities.

The management says its investment in mining equipment and continued extraction activities demonstrates its commitment to increasing production and sustaining operations.

However, clarification of the reported extraction figures will be important in establishing a consistent production record under the new management.
