The official conclusion of this year’s nationwide examination exercise will be marked by the writing of the final paper for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)—Arabic (Essay & Objective) today, Wednesday, June 18.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has praised its team and stakeholders for ensuring a seamless process nationwide in spite of a few logistical issues, expressing satisfaction with the way the tests were conducted overall.

On Tuesday, June 17, John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, spoke on Citi FM and commended the Council’s performance in administering the tests.

“I will say that on our part, we will pat ourselves on the back and say that we did a good job,” he remarked. “Usually, after examinations, what you expect as an examining body is that every candidate is provided the opportunity to write, in terms of questions and in terms of stationery. All of these things went to the candidates.”

Mr. Kapi admitted to a few small problems, such as the delivery of exam materials being delayed.

In one case, a car broke down while delivering exam papers, and in another, the challenging terrain in a distant area delayed delivery.

He did stress, though, that these difficulties were quickly overcome.

“On subsequent days, they decided to provide an extra vehicle, and so they were able to make it in good time,” he added.

The 2025 BECE is seen as a success by WAEC.
