The Ayawaso West constituency has been decidedly won by actor-turned-politician John Dumelo, who defeated Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In contrast to incumbent Lydia Alhassan, who received 39,214 votes, Dumelo received 47,560 votes.
After his first try in 2020, when he lost by a slim margin to Lydia Alhassan, his victory represents a significant milestone in his political career.
Dumelo thanked the voters from the bottom of his heart when the results were announced and promised to keep working hard to fulfill his campaign pledges.
“We have sent the elephant back into the bush. It will never come outside again. We have taken back our seat, and we will guard it fiercely,” Dumelo told a jubilant crowd of supporters.”
“This victory is not just for me, but for the people of Ayawaso West. I am committed to ensuring that we build a stronger, more prosperous community together,” Dumelo said.
After the NPP dominated for 28 years, Dumelo pledged to protect the seat that was reclaimed.
