The five women who ran for Western Region (WR) parliamentary seats on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket have all been elected.
The current Member of Parliament (MP) for the Jomoro Constituency, Mrs. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, defeated three other candidates with 25,349 votes.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Mr. Paul Essien received 14,195 votes, the CPP’s Nana Blay Miezah received 305, and the independent candidate Madam Samia Nkrumah received 8,059.
First-time candidate Mrs. Mavis Kuka Bissue received 28,277 votes in the Ahanta West Constituency, defeating NPP candidate Mr. Francis Eric Pobee, who received 19,663.
Mr. Isaac Kwamina Afful of the NPP received 17,072 votes, while Madam Emelia Arthur, the former Deputy Western Regional Minister, received 22,043 votes.
With 26,166 votes, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, who ran for the seat in the 2020 election but lost by a slim margin, defeated Mr. Charles Bissue, the former regional secretary of the NPP, who received 17,754 votes.
With 26,375 votes, Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe defeated two other candidates to win the Amenfi Central seat.
