Finance Ministry’s efforts to revive the economy are praised by the Civil Service Council.

The Ministry of Finance has been commended by the Civil Service Council for its part in bringing stability back to the Ghanaian economy. The Council has described the Ministry’s recent performance as a clear example of excellent economic management and competent public sector leadership.

The praise was given during a familiarisation visit by Council members to the Ministry, where topics covered included staff development, interagency cooperation, institutional issues, and economic management.

Dr. Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, Chairman of the Council, commended Ministry officials for their tenacity and dedication in guiding the nation through economic challenges.

He pointed out that the cedi’s recent rise in value relative to major foreign currencies and the steady improvement in the state of the economy were unmistakable indicators that the Ministry’s efforts were paying off.

“You have demonstrated commitment and dedication at a very critical period for the country. The economy is responding positively, and many Ghanaians are beginning to regain confidence,” he stated.

Dr. Kannae encouraged Ministry workers to maintain the momentum and continue working with professionalism and honesty to support the government’s larger economic development objective.

According to him, the Council’s involvement with the Ministry is part of an ongoing series of visits to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen collaboration, uncover operational bottlenecks, and improve service delivery across the Civil Service.

He emphasised that implementing the government’s resetting agenda would necessitate improved institutional coordination and adequate logistical assistance for state entities.

He consequently urged on the Ministry of Finance to continue supporting other MDAs so that they can function successfully.

The Ministry of Finance’s Chief Director thanked the Council for its ongoing support and acknowledgement of the Ministry’s efforts.

He stated that the Council’s contribution to enhancing the Civil Service’s human resource capabilities, especially through training and professional development initiatives, is highly valued by the Ministry.

The Chief Director also emphasised the effects of the Ministry’s recent fiscal changes, particularly the introduction of the Commitment Authorisation system, which he claimed has ensured responsible use of public resources and reduced waste.

He went on to say that the Minister of Finance’s leadership has been crucial in guiding the economy toward recovery and restoring trust in public financial management.

Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, who also spoke to the group, emphasised the necessity of ongoing staff development in order to enable public employees to match international standards in economic negotiations and policy making.

He clarified that because of their frequent interactions with foreign organisations, such as the foreign Monetary Fund, organisations like the Ministry of Finance need highly qualified staff.

According to Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh, the Ministry is one of the important state organisations that uses strategic policy interventions based on national priorities to assist form a robust and self-sustaining economy.

He added that even while there has been progress, government organisations still need to keep developing the ability required to successfully support the expansion of the private sector and the advancement of the country.

During the talks, issues pertaining to government flagship programs and gender budgeting initiatives also came up frequently.

Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye, Kwame A. Tenkorang, Justice Agnes M.A. Dordzie, Charles Kwame Dondieu, Dr. Evans A. Dzikum, and directors and heads of Ministry units were among the members of the Civil Service Council present at the meeting.
