Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has visited payment centers in the Greater Accra Region to monitor the continuous distribution of cash grants under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Program’s 96th cycle.

The Ministry’s dedication to accountability, openness, and the efficient implementation of social protection initiatives is demonstrated by her visit.

At the Weija Leprosarium, 269 recipients from areas like Gbawe, Mandela, New Weija, Tetegu, Weija, and Wiaboman came to pick up their LEAP cash awards.

The Minister’s commitment to supervise the 96th LEAP payment cycle’s nationwide distribution is in line with this monitoring activity.

She engaged with payment agents and beneficiaries during her visit to evaluate the procedure’ effectiveness and handle any new issues that arose.

The government, through the Ministry, has begun indexing the LEAP cash grant against inflation, according to Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey. This policy change aims to protect the award’s actual worth and protect low-income people from economic shocks.

The following are the updated LEAP grant amounts:

One-member household: increased from GH₵256 to GH₵320.00

Two-member household: increased from GH₵304 to GH₵380.00

Three-member household: increased from GH₵352 to GH₵440.00

Four or more-member household: increased from GH₵424 to GH₵530.00

The Minister, speaking to the media, reaffirmed that the LEAP Program offers critical financial assistance to extremely low-income households with vulnerable members, such as orphans and vulnerable children, people with severe disabilities, elderly people 65 years of age and older, pregnant women, and nursing mothers with children under a year old.

She underlined that the H.E. John Dramani Mahama government is committed to lowering living expenses by taking the proper and sensible actions to promote economic expansion and advancement for everybody.

“The Government is taking measures to enhance the real value of the LEAP cash grant and its impact on key development indicators such as nutrition, health, schooling, productive investment, and social inclusion,” she stated.

The Minister urged recipients to give top priority to necessities including family nourishment, kids’ education, and sources of income. She advised them to strive for long-term financial security even when LEAP provides temporary financial respite.

The Minister emphasized the continuous efforts to raise the standard of living for vulnerable households nationwide and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering social protection actions.

The Ministry’s main program, the LEAP Program, gives extremely impoverished households cash assistance every two months to help with basic necessities.

Reaching thousands of recipients nationwide is the goal of the current 96th payment cycle.

The Minister’s monitoring visit is a component of a nationwide initiative to guarantee that all qualified recipients receive their cash grants promptly and effectively.
