A team from MTN Ghana, led by Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer Ms. Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, recently met with Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), the Honourable Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, to discuss a major technical issue that has impeded the company’s attempts to implement lower data prices on its systems.

The high-level conversation centered on the persistent issues with MTN’s subscription and pricing services, which have unfortunately postponed the full launch of new, more reasonably priced data bundles, such as the eagerly awaited 399 package.

Despite passing all User Acceptance Testing (UAT) in the test environment, it was disclosed during the meeting that three of MTN’s important services, the primary service and two supporting services, had crashed when they went live.

According to Ms. Afriyie Wiafe, the incident was a systematic breakdown that prevented some consumers from completing transactions and caused others to get perplexing messages, rather than a security compromise.

The ‘399 package,’ a huge data offering intended to serve students, multimedia makers, and heavy data consumers, has been inaccessible to some members due to a technical glitch.

The MTN team responded to the problem by stating that efforts are being made to fully restore service.

According to reports, all three impacted services are now back up. System configuration and data balances are the main priorities at this time.

The honorable George, who has been active on social media to inform the public about the difficulties and the ongoing efforts at rectification, underlined the significance of proactive communication in preventing public reaction.

He emphasized the urgency of finding a quick solution, insisting that the systems be completely functional and accepting new memberships by today’s end.

The Minister was confident that MTN’s systems should be completely operational by midnight today, barring any unforeseen difficulties.

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations reiterates the government’s commitment to offering easily accessible and reasonably priced digital services while assuring the public that it will continue to work with MTN Ghana to guarantee a smooth and timely resolution to these issues.
