Ghana has established itself as an example for the West African subregion by reinforcing its leadership in sustainable mining, according to Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

The minister urged other nations to follow Ghana’s lead in responsible resource development while addressing a group of business leaders at this year’s West Africa Mining and Power Expo (WAMPEX).

During the WAMPEX 2025 launch on Wednesday, May 28, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Hon. Buah stated, “Ghana is not just a mining destination—we are proof that responsible investment and transformative development can go hand in hand.”

He pointed out that last year alone, Ghana’s stable policies brought in over $1.2 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the mining industry, which is evidence of the nation’s political stability, highly qualified labor force, and welcoming environment for investors.

He added that the Mineral Development Fund is now directly helping more than 100 mining communities, highlighting Ghana’s transition from corporate social responsibility to true shared value.

The Lands Minister further emphasized Ghana’s achievements in four crucial areas, highlighting the nation as a continental trailblazer:

• Investor confidence

• Community impact

• Environmental stewardship

• Transparent governance

“Our doors are open, our policies are clear, and our commitment is unwavering,” he asserted.

“Let WAMPEX 2025 be remembered as the moment we turned promise into practice—where sustainable deals were struck, transformative partnerships formed, and West Africa’s mining future was reshaped.”

The conference’s chairman and president of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Michael Edem Akafia, Esq., stressed in his remarks the importance of this year’s WAMPEX and urged business executives to align with sustainable development goals for the greatest socio-economic effect.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines’ CEO, Mr. Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, emphasized the importance of this year’s subject, “The Mining and Power Hub: Driving Sustainable Investment Opportunities in West Africa,” in his welcome speech.

He urged mining and energy companies to maintain their resiliency in the face of economic hardship and to establish themselves as catalysts for regional change.

Senior professionals, government representatives, and industry stakeholders from all over West Africa can stay up to date on the most recent developments in the mining and power sectors, share ideas on urgent problems, and investigate future investment and growth opportunities at WAMPEX 2025, which is presently taking place in Accra.

Discussions about new developments, difficulties, and investment prospects in the mining and power industries are facilitated by the event.
