Ghana Link Network Services Ltd has denied rumors that the weighbridge system at Tema Port, which is part of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), was not working during a recent visit by Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, and Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister of Transportation.
Ghana Link clarified on its X (formerly Twitter) page that the weighbridges were operational at the time of the visit in response to a Daily Graphic article.
The business stressed that the Ministers were worried about enforcement, not the operation of the system.
“The weighbridges at Tema Port were and remain fully operational. The report suggesting otherwise is inaccurate and misleading,” Ghana Link stated.
The company claims that rather than focusing on whether the system was functioning, Hon. Nikpe’s investigation concentrated on why certain trucks were not being weighed.
It clarified that certain trucks were permitted to avoid the weighbridges because the procedure is still in its piloting stage.
Concerns about the management of overloaded cars were also addressed by Ghana Link, which stated that once the system is fully functional, Customs is collaborating with the Ghana Highway Authority and Port Authorities to provide a smooth data-sharing process on axle weight compliance.
“This phased approach ensures a free flow of traffic and a smooth transition as we work toward full-scale implementation,”
“As part of our commitment to efficiency and compliance, we are engaging relevant authorities to enhance enforcement,” Ghana Link stated.
In order to avoid spreading false information that might erode public trust in Ghana’s commerce and logistics infrastructure, Ghana Link requested media outlets to report with objectivity.
When the weighbridge system is fully operational, it should increase road safety, lessen highway damage from overloaded trucks, and improve Tema Port trade efficiency.
“We remain dedicated to transparency and efficiency in the nation’s logistics ecosystem. Misinformation only creates unnecessary panic and confusion,” the company reiterated.
