Renowned Ghanaian businessman Daniel McKorley, who serves as Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, or McDan, has boldly announced that his net worth has topped the $1 billion mark.

McDan disclosed that he become a billionaire as a result of years of perseverance, taking calculated risks, and growing his company.

“The next billionaire will come from Africa, and those billionaires will be owning our own resources, so why do we leave the space of mining?” McDan explained in an interview with the Konnect Minds podcast on YouTube. Salt is very important.

“I mean, there are other Ghanaians moving up that list, but I’m almost there”. he said.

In response to the host’s question about whether he sought Forbes recognition, McDan said, “Forbes for what? I have achieved the status of billionaire. I now have more than $1 billion in net wealth.

The host said, “I truly admire your energy,” which caused the audience to laugh.

“I say this to encourage people, not as a show-off,” McDan added, adding that we must fulfill our obligations while maintaining our modesty. You don’t have to go out and show off who you are.

This is to inform the young people that, if McDan from the streets can make it here, I am 100 steps ahead of him. McDan was 20 or 30 at the time.

Therefore, boasting is unnecessary. Hope is what my brand is all about. When a young man sees the brand, I want him to think, “Wow, I want to be like that brand.”

He continued, “I can create a brand if a Labadi street kid can.”

McDan’s business empire includes real estate, shipping, aviation, logistics, and salt mining.

Additionally, McDan cautioned Ghanaian adolescents in a different interview that marriage without funds can cause them to fail.

McDan says that if you don’t have money, you shouldn’t get married.

McDan went on to say that he was terrified of getting married because of “chop money.”

“If you don’t have money, don’t marry,” McDan said during the 2025 PCH Hangouts at the ICGC The New Wine Temple in East Legon. Without money, a marriage can fail.

“I couldn’t marry early because I was afraid of ‘chop money.’ I grew up in an environment where you could see a man physically abusing a woman because of money, and a woman verbally abusing a man because of money.

“So, the institution of marriage was scary for me,” he reiterated.

The entrepreneur also suggested that young people in Ghana who currently sleep for more than eight hours a day start sleeping for four hours.

He pointed out that in order to succeed, young adults must have self-control, bravery, and selflessness.

McDan asserts that in order for Ghanaian young to devote more time to self-improvement and community service, they must reduce their sleep.

“If you sleep eight hours a day, start sleeping four hours,” McDan said. “Add the extra two hours in serving somebody. There’s a lot of benefit in service. So, start with yourself”.

McDan said that although many young people in Ghana are bright and full of potential, they frequently lack the self-control and “finishing power” necessary to realize their goals.

“It’s not money,” he added. The finishing power. If you ask me to stop everything and focus on one thing, focus on yourself”.

“Discipline is what the Ghanaian youth need, discipline and a bit of courage. We have smart youth in this country, but they need a bit of discipline and a bit of courage”.
