During the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Asawase constituency, a failed candidate, denied being supported by the party’s leadership to remove the sitting Member of Parliament.
Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak was vying for the nomination against Masawudu Mubarick, who garnered 734 votes in the primary elections. In the constituency, some party members had demanded a change.
Nevertheless, the current Asawase MP easily won with 1,063. He said that after losing his post as the Minority Chief Whip, certain party heavyweights orchestrated a massive plot to depose him.
To help the NDC keep the Asawase seat in the general elections of 2024, Masawudu Mubarick urged his supporters to support the incumbent MP and refuted claims that he was employed for the purpose.
At a press conference, Masawudu Mubarick said, “The problem about me being a favorite candidate, wow how lucky I am? I recall that the same organization disqualified me from the competition last year.
Therefore, I don’t believe that these accusations contain even a shred of truth. In no way was I sponsored. 30% of the money I’ve spent has come from folks I’ve somehow helped, and 70% of it has come from my personal funds. I can declare with confidence that I never received any contributions from any corporate or political figures.
Muntaka Mubarak’s achievement was acknowledged by Masawudu Mubarick, who also asked his supporters to maintain composure and allow cooler heads to rule.
“Let’s all band together and support our re-elected parliamentary candidate so that Muntaka Mubarak will be re-elected to Parliament in 2025.”
He continued, “He has my full backing, and I’m urging my fans to likewise support him so that NDC will triumph in the future elections.
