President John Dramani Mahama has restated his commitment to addressing the problems with the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program and boosting educational results.

Mr. Mahama highlighted education as one of his main goals on Thursday, February 6, 2025, during his “Thank You Tour” of the Central Region.

He described intentions to decentralize food procurement to enable more effective operations and get dedicated money to boost the Free SHS program.

“Education will remain a priority, and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels.
“And ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy.”

In order to obtain specialized finance and decentralized food procurement, we intend to enhance the Free SHS program.

Along with a pledge to upgrade tertiary institutions’ infrastructure to handle increasing student populations, Mr. Mahama also announced the implementation of a “no academic fees” program to offer financial aid for continuing students.

“Additionally, we will introduce a ‘no academic fees’ policy offering financial aid to continuing students and expand infrastructure for tertiary institutions,” he added.
