The Achimota District Court has placed a self-described traditional ruler under house arrest for a fortnight after he shot and killed an off-duty soldier at Millennium City, Kasoa in the Central Region.
The death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso on April 30, 2024, has led to the provisional charging of Benlord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima Ababio, with one count of murder.
The deceased soldier reportedly suffered gunshot wounds from the suspect after he went to the Millennium City Police Station to report trespassing on a half-plot of land that is being sued.
The police requested that the suspect be remanded for additional investigation, thus the court, presided over by His Worship Prince Owusu, denied his plea and remanded him for a period of two weeks.
On May 16, 2024, he is scheduled to return to court to discuss the results of the police investigation.

According to the prosecution’s brief information sheet, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, the deceased, was an army officer assigned to the Army Base Workshop at Burma Camp.
Benlord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima Ababio, the accused, is reportedly a self-proclaimed traditional king at Kasoa.
According to the brief fact, on April 30, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who has since passed away, went to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 with registration number 3591-24 with his two coworkers, Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Rahman and Ametus Matthew, to report a trespassing incident.
It stated that this was based on knowledge that certain encroachers were working on a piece of Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman’s property.
According to the fact, the accused showed up at the police station, attacked Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who was in charge of the Toyota RAV 4×4 vehicle’s steering wheel, and repeatedly opened fire on him, instantly killing him.
It further stated that the defendant was apprehended and disarmed right away, and that the court remanded him after he was charged in order to conduct more investigations.
