A 36-year-old East Legon businessman was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in a joint investigation with the Bureau of National Investigations on suspicion of drugging, sexually abusing, filming, and sharing private films of women online without their permission.
Joshua Kojo Anane Boate, the defendant, is accused of running a Telegram platform where videos of allegedly sedated women were shared.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, CID Director-General, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, briefed reporters at the CID Headquarters in Accra.
She stated that the arrest is a part of continuing investigations into cyber-related abuse and online sexual exploitation of vulnerable people.
Officers from the CID Cybercrime Unit worked with the BNI to conduct an intelligence-led investigation that resulted in the suspect’s arrest on May 6, 2026, according to COP Donkor.
The guy allegedly shared films of women he had drugged, sexually assaulted, and videotaped without their knowledge or consent on a Telegram network known as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025,” according to investigators.
According to COP Donkor, investigations indicate that the suspect frequented nightclubs in Accra around 2025. There, he allegedly contacted female victims and gave them Alprazolam, also known as Xanax, before attacking them while they were unconscious or unable to react.
She stated that the suspect reportedly videotaped the incidents and then disseminated the videos and photographs on the Telegram platform without the victims’ consent.
Police said a search of the suspect’s home yielded two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, and an iSave device.
Investigators also discovered empty sachets thought to contain Alprazolam (Xanax) and Midazolam (Versed) pills.
While the sachets will be sent to the Food and Drugs Authority for additional analysis, COP Donkor stated that all electronic devices recovered during the operation have been kept for digital forensic assessment.
While the investigation is ongoing, she confirmed that the suspect has now been charged in court.
Additionally, the CID Director-General urged the public to report suspected instances of online sexual exploitation, abuse, and cyber-related offences via the closest police station or authorised reporting channels.
