Gushegu Member of Parliament and Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, has raised concerns about what he describes as a troubling shift in President John Dramani Mahama’s approach to democratic governance.
According to the MP, President Mahama, who was previously regarded as a strong advocate of democracy, now appears to be adopting what he considers increasingly authoritarian tendencies.
Alhassan Tampuli said the development is worrying and questioned whether the President’s current approach is consistent with the principles of democracy, constitutional governance and the rule of law.
The Gushegu MP’s comments are likely to fuel further political debate over the Mahama administration’s commitment to democratic institutions, accountability and constitutional governance in Ghana.
Tampuli, who serves as the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, stressed the importance of protecting democratic principles and ensuring that government actions remain within the framework of Ghana’s Constitution.
