Mahama Ayariga, the Bawku Central Member of Parliament, has demanded a thorough investigation of the beatings of Garu locals by certain Ghanaian military troops.
Numerous inhabitants of Garu and its surroundings are said to have been brutalized by some Ghana Armed Forces officers who raided this area this morning.
After the officers brutally beat and mistreated many of the inhabitants, they suffered from injuries and psychological stress.
Some victims of military violence claim that they were simply abused verbally and physically without being informed what they had done wrong.
Though the exact motivations behind the invasion are still unknown, there is a lot of conjecture that the action was taken in revenge for an altercation that broke out between a local vigilante group and some National Security officers.
The Bawku Central Member of Parliament demanded in a statement that the issue be thoroughly investigated in order to identify and apprehend those responsible.
He took use of the occasion to offer his condolences to the victims of the atrocities.
