Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a series of activities nationwide to mark the June 4, 2026 edition of the party’s annual “NDC Month”.

With a renewed emphasis on bolstering state institutions and encouraging responsible administration, the commemoration’s theme is “Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising.”

The NDC Chief Scribe, who made the official announcement while addressing the media at the NDC Headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, on Friday, said the annual commemoration is dedicated to reflection, remembrance, recommitment and renewal of the ideals that shaped the party’s political tradition.

The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and ultimately the NDC were formed on May 15, 2026, which the NDC Chief Scribe remarked was a historically significant date in Ghana’s political development.

He clarified that the June 4 Uprising represented the need for social justice, responsibility, discipline, and honesty in government, and that those whose principles are still applicable in Ghanaian politics today.

He said, “The principles of probity, accountability, inclusiveness and people-centered governance, which formed the moral foundation of June 4 are inseparable from the broader national reset agenda currently underway.”

According to the NDC General Secretary, President John Dramani Mahama’s government’s continuing Reset Agenda aims to improve service delivery to regular Ghanaians, bolster democratic governance, and restore trust in public institutions.

Additionally, Mr. Kwetey honoured Jerry John Rawlings, the NDC’s founder and former president, calling him a patriotic leader whose dedication to honesty, responsibility, and democratic governance continues to inspire generations both inside and without the party.

He declared that party members, cadres, traditional leaders, youth groups, and civil society organisations will participate in a number of instructional and memorial events held throughout the nation in June.

A public lecture in the Banda Constituency on June 3 about the historical significance of the June 4 uprising and responsible governance, a ceremonial flag raising, wreath laying, and durbar in the Bono Region on June 4, and the celebration of NDC Day on June 10 with the goal of encouraging women and young people to participate in politics are some of the major events listed.

On June 19, the party will celebrate Cadres Day in Kumasi with the subject “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres.”

In addition, the NDC intends to commemorate Founder’s Day on June 22 by naming the party’s headquarters in memory of former President Rawlings and unveiling his bust in recognition of his contributions to Ghana’s democratic advancement.

Mr. Kwetey emphasised that the observance is meant to be a ceremonial occasion as well as a chance for political education and national reflection, and he encouraged party members, supporters, and Ghanaians to fully participate in the events.

The NDC Chief Scribe called on supporters to preserve the spirit of togetherness, patriotism, and accountability while reiterating the party’s commitment to social justice, open governance, and the empowerment of common people.
