The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is keeping a careful eye on the intensifying tensions in the Middle East and is deeply concerned.

The Ministry takes note of reported actions by Iran against Israel and US military assets in the region, especially in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as ongoing coordinated military strikes by the US and the State of Israel against targets inside the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Parts of the region have experienced increased security alerts, airline interruptions, and airspace closures as a result of these developments.

In order to save lives, maintain economic stability, and establish enduring regional peace, the Ghanaian government urges all sides to use caution, defuse the situation, and resume diplomatic relations.

Ghanaians are advised by the Ministry to refrain from making unnecessary trips to and from the Middle East. Ghanaians living in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates are advised to stay inside whenever possible, follow local authorities’ instructions, and always be on the lookout.

In affected places, citizens should stay away from critical areas and big crowds, keep a careful eye on official messages, keep their travel documents close at hand, and stay in touch with the closest Ghanaian diplomatic representation.

Evaluations about the evacuation of Ghanaian citizens, if required, are still ongoing, and an emergency readiness plan has been implemented.

The government has began the evacuation of a number of staff members from Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran, while retaining vital people to coordinate aid to Ghanaians in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Ministry and Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region remain available to offer consular assistance.
