The family of a local assembly member who was tragically killed in an altercation between military forces and local youth in the Amansie South District has received a visit from Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
The government’s attempt to defuse tensions after the September 9th incident on the concession of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited includes the Minister’s visit on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Speaking to a group of mourning family members and supporters, Hon. Buah conveyed his deep sadness at the passing and called the departed a devoted community leader.

In the regional Akan tongue, Hon. Buah offered his condolences, saying, “I am deeply sorry for your loss, and I share in your pain,” he said. “I want to assure you that Government will ensure proper and thorough investigations into the events that led to this tragedy and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. The President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, also conveys his profound condolences.”
Local teenagers, irritated by what they say is the company’s lack of community development, reportedly encroached on the mining concession, which sparked the altercation.
To quell the disturbance, the corporation dispatched military troops, whose intervention tragically resulted in the deadly altercation.

After visiting with the family, the Minister met with Asanko Gold’s leadership.
He advised the business to prioritize community development projects as a fundamental component of its operations and to rigorously adhere to mining legislation.
He also underlined the government’s dedication to mending the division between the business and the neighborhood and assisting in a peaceful, long-term settlement.
A high-level delegation from the Ministry, Minerals Commission, and rCOMSDEP Secretariat accompanied the Minister.
