Three ministerial nominees have been submitted to the Appointments Committee by Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin for screening and a report back to the House.

President John Dramani Mahama has chosen Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister-Designate for Justice, John Jinapor as Minister-Designate for Energy, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister-Designate for Finance.

“I have received a message from the Office of the President, dated January 9, 2025, on your behalf,” Speaker Bagbin said as he addressed the House.

Respected Members, As a result, I will forward the nominations to the Appointments Committee for review and report back to the House. It is referred to as such.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, responded to the referral by warning the nominees to prepare thoroughly before testifying before the Appointments Committee.

“We want to caution your nominees to come prepared. It is not going to be business as usual, so they should come prepared. I hope you will be ready if you appear before the Appointments Committee,” he said.

It is anticipated that the vetting process will closely examine the nominees’ qualifications, strategies, and vision in relation to the government’s objectives for the advancement of the country.

The dates for the vetting process, when the nominees will discuss their qualifications and answer questions from members of parliament, will soon be announced by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

This phase ensures that nominees fulfill the requirements and expectations of the Ghanaian public and is a part of the constitutional procedure for approving appointments to important ministerial positions.
