Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, has been presented with the final report from the committee tasked with investigating the circumstances of a patient’s death at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on April 13, 2025.
An independent committee led by Mr. Abdul Rahim Mohamed was assigned the responsibility of evaluating the clinical, operational, and systemic factors that might have played a role in the incident that raised significant public concern and claims of medical negligence.
While presenting the report, Mr. Rahim clarified that the committee involved the patient’s family and hospital staff from pertinent departments, including the emergency department and ICU, and examined the hospital’s standard operating procedures

He pointed out that the committee’s findings came with extensive recommendations designed to enhance operational efficiency and rebuild public trust in the hospital’s services.
The committee chairman stated that Tamale Teaching Hospital is essential for delivering care to residents of the Northern Region, as well as those from neighboring regions and some areas of Burkina Faso. Therefore, enhancing its systems is crucial for the broader health sector.
Upon receiving the report, Hon. Akandoh praised the committee for its commitment and professionalism.
He assured the public that the Ministry would conduct a thorough study of the findings and ensure that the recommendations were carried out.
“The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of healthcare services in our country. This report is not just for the Ministry but for the people of Ghana, who deserve assurance that the system is being strengthened,” the Minister stated.
The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s dedication to transparency and accountability in dealing with issues of public concern and promised to keep collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance patient safety and healthcare delivery across the country.
