After being selected as the running mate for Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate in the impending 2024 elections, Ghana’s Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as “NAPO,” has expressed sincere appreciation and humility.
On Thursday, the National Council of the party approved his nomination with a unanimous vote.
“I am deeply honoured today as the chosen running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). I am humbled to be nominated by our distinguished flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and endorsed unanimously by the National Council,” Opoku Prempeh stated.
“I view this nomination as part of God’s plan for my life, and I am grateful for His guidance in directing my path. I consider this nomination as a call to higher service, a call to sacrifice, and a duty to perform,” he said in a statement issued after his announcement.
He emphasized how dedicated he was to helping Bawumia realize a vision that would take Ghana to new heights.
Coming from the Ashanti Region, a bastion of the NPP, NAPO views this nomination as a divine calling.
NAPO expressed appreciation for the confidence and trust that President Akufo-Addo and the National Council had put in him, saying “I express my gratitude to the National Council, the rank-and-file of our party, and our esteemed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for their unwavering support and faith in me.”
