Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, held a brief ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters to officially launch the Domestic Violence Management Board and the Governing Board of the National Council on Persons with Disability (NCPD).

Section 43 of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715) established the NCPD’s Governing Board, while the Domestic Violence Management Board was established in accordance with the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

The NCPD Board is tasked with ensuring that people with disabilities are integrated into all facets of national development and with proposing, promoting, and enforcing policies that improve their rights and welfare.

In contrast, the Domestic Violence Board is responsible for advising the Minister on domestic violence policy issues, coordinating pertinent institutions, and assisting with victim prevention, protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration initiatives.

The Minister underlined in her speech how important both Boards will be to bolstering the nation’s social safety system.

In addition to working to remove obstacles that stand in the way of full participation and fair opportunity, she asked the NCPD Board to support the mainstreaming of disability problems across sectors.

She also urged the Domestic Violence Board to support survivor-centered solutions, expand public education, and facilitate productive cooperation between state and non-state actors.

The Minister urged the just sworn-in members to serve with dedication, honesty, and a common goal of a just and inclusive society after administering the oath of office and oath of secrecy.
