The Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collated parliamentary election results for a number of constituencies have been flatly rejected by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a forceful statement released on Sunday, the party charged that the EC was involved in unlawful activities that violate Ghana’s democratic values and the people’s sovereign choice.

The results, which were announced under what the NDC called “questionable and illegal circumstances,” constitute a serious betrayal of Ghana’s democracy.

Additionally, the party charged that Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the EC, had a history of wrongdoing and impunity under her leadership.

“The Electoral Commission, by its actions, has compromised its mandate and deepened public mistrust in the institution,” the statement read.

The NDC warned that there is no statute of limitations on electoral crimes and pledged to punish those culpable accountable.

Additionally, the party accused the military, police, and Electoral Commission of conspiring to illegally manipulate election results.

It said that the legitimacy of Ghana’s democracy was seriously threatened by this purported “unholy alliance.”

The National Peace Council and other moral organizations’ inaction on the issue disappointed the NDC.

Additionally, it urged the international world to pay attention to the EC’s “dangerous and unlawful actions,” cautioning that they could undermine the nation’s peace and democratic advancement.

The NDC praised its members for preserving calm and avoiding conflict in the face of what it called security forces’ harassment and intimidation, despite its harsh denunciation.

The party reiterated its dedication to upholding the people’s will and making sure justice is served.

The demand on the government and the EC to respect Ghanaians’ voices as they were expressed during the December 7 elections came at the end of the statement.

The NDC promised to keep rallying its followers to oppose any effort to overrule what it says is the rightful will of the people.

The NDC pledged to stick to its goal of restoring the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process and defending the nation’s democratic values in a declaration signed by Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party’s general secretary.

In a stunning reversal of fortune, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was proclaimed the winner in seven of the contested parliamentary seats by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Following the re-collation procedure, which was required by an Accra High Court judgment, the EC’s Returning Officers made the declarations at various collation centers.

The outcomes validate the victorious NPP candidates in seven hotly contested seats.
