The Electoral Commission (EC) has received a strong notification from Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, expressing strong objection to any automatic reordering of candidates’ positions on the ballot.
Dr. Boamah highlighted the significance of openness and respect to fair electoral procedures in his Facebook post on October 30, stressing that his party will not tolerate any capricious modifications to ballot locations.
His comments coincide with mounting worries that the integrity of the voting process would be impacted by such a shift.
According to Dr. Boamah, “We shall not accept automatic re-arrangement of positions on the ballot,” as this might jeopardize the level playing field necessary for fair elections.
As the nation approaches the next general elections, public scrutiny of the electoral body’s preparations has increased as a result of Dr. Boamah’s notice to the EC.
The Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC), meanwhile, “has suspended the printing of presidential ballot papers” due to the “unfortunate passing” of Madam Akua Donkor, even though it is “near completion.”
On Monday, October 28, 2024, Akua Donkor, a politician and farmer, who founded the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and is its presidential candidate, passed away. After being moved from the Nsawam Government Hospital to the Ridge Hospital in Accra, she was declared dead there.
