The head of the majority, Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markin, has claimed that the minority in Parliament is impeding the government’s attempts to grant tax incentives for regional Ghanaian businesses that are being acquired under the One-District One-Factory (1D-1F) program.

He clarified that he had tried his hardest over the last three years to obtain Parliament to accept these waivers totaling less than $350 million for 42 Ghanaian enterprises.

The majority leader also disclosed that the NDC government, which was headed by former President John Dramani Mahama, illegally and without parliamentary approval gave tax breaks to businesses that the NDC deemed to be strategic investors, such as Dzata Cement. Meridian Port Services (MPS) alone received tax breaks totaling $832 million.

He appealed to the minority to support public and commercial sectors in giving young Ghanaians greater employment opportunities.
