Nominations for potential parliamentary candidates are now being accepted in constituencies where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently has incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs).

The internal election’s final round, scheduled for January 27, 2024, will take place after the nomination process, which runs until December 25, 2023.

Michael Oquaye Jr., Roni Nicol, Hayford Siaw, Alois Mohl, and Bice Osei Kuffuor, also referred to as Obour, are among the many candidates who have announced their intention to run for the party’s representation in the following constituencies: Dome-Kwabenya, Ablekuma West, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Nandom, and Asante Akyem South.

Other candidates preparing for the internal competition include Raphael Agyapong for Bantama, retired Commissioner of Police Alex Mensah for Bekwai, and Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem.

One prominent focus is the Fomena constituency, where the incumbent, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, won the election on his own initiative following his departure from the NPP.

The question of how many current MPs will run for reelection is raised by this development.

In an announcement ahead of the nominations, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP, emphasized that no candidate should encounter difficulties in acquiring nomination papers.

Forms can be downloaded on the party website or obtained at the regional secretariat for those facing difficulties at the constituency level.

The cost of the nomination forms is GH¢3,000, and there is also a GH¢35,000 non-refundable filing charge.

A 50% filing fee reimbursement will be granted to women, people with disabilities, and young people (those between the ages of 18 and 40).

In addition, candidates need to pay a GH¢40,000 nonrefundable development fee. All payments should be submitted to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra using a banker’s draft.

The deadline for submitting an appeal is January 9, 2024, and a National Parliamentary pleas Committee will hear pleas from disqualified candidates from January 10 to January 12, 2024.
