The budget for the fiscal year 2023 has been referred to as empty by the minority in the parliament.

The Minority contends that Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has to be reminded that he is the finance minister, not an English minister.

He only provided us grammar, that’s all. He has made it quite apparent to us that the Ghanaian economy is in an intensive care unit.

Cassiel Ato Forson, the ranking member of the parliament’s finance committee, told the press, “This Minister has informed us that going ahead to the year 2023, there is going to be a freeze on employment at a time when we know that unemployment, particularly with the youth, is in excess of 50%.”

The caucus believes that the government’s plans to raise money will only make Ghanaians’ economic circumstances worse, he continued.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta included a freeze on public sector hiring as well as a 2.5% increase in VAT when he presented the budget to the House of Representatives on Thursday.
