Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, a former general secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, is pleading with political parties not to take advantage of those affected by the Akosombo Dam spill.
Last month, the dam started to flood, affecting roughly 26,000 individuals who have since been moved to safe shelters within the impacted communities.
Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong urged politicians to refrain from making these people’s suffering a political issue, pointing out that it calls for immediate action and humanitarian aid.
He urged Ghanaians to help those in need, emphasizing the need of cooperation and solidarity in times of crisis. Aid has already begun to be given by a number of organizations, including the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong also emphasized the necessity of holding those who were consulted before to the leak accountable, particularly in light of the severity of the damage done.
